Divergent Yachting is proud to announce SY Black Pearl came away with the award for ‘Best Sailing Yacht 60m and above’ and alongside MY DAR the coveted ‘Best Yacht of the Year’ award. An unprecedented achievement, which will go down in the awards history! Our Director Derek Munro, the team at Oceanco, Captain Chris Gartner and guests where at the event and celebrated in style when the awards were announced!
The World Superyacht Awards Gala, organized by Boat International Media, took place in the heart of London, in Old Billingsgate. Nearly 600 guests including superyacht Owners, designers, and builders were on hand for the dinner and awards event.
The Judges considered that Black Pearl, was a huge step forward from the first yacht of this type, Maltese Falcon, surpassing her on practically every level they said. Here was a sailing vessel with all the facilities, comfort and performance of a motor yacht, but one that has the potential to cross oceans without the use of any diesel fuel whatsoever, as propulsion is left to the wind and the total demand for household electricity could be met from her shaft generators. Interestingly, provision has been made for the future integration of solar power generated from her sails – an emerging technology that is not yet ready for service. This, and a host of other attributes, was more than sufficient for the Judges to award a Neptune to this remarkable yacht.
Black Pearl, measuring 106.7-meters in length, is not only the world’s largest private sailing yacht, she also has many unique and innovative features such as a state- of –the- art Dynarig sailing system, single- level engine room, and a hybrid propulsion installation with a high capacity battery bank allowing for a regeneration mode when under sail. With Exterior Design by Ken Freivokh and Nuvolari Lenard, Interior Design by Gerard Villate and Nuvolari Lenard and naval architecture by Dykstra Naval Architects/ Oceanco, project managed by our very own Derek Munro as the Owners representative and now managed by Divergent Yachting. Black Pearl is both stunningly beautiful and a technological tour de force.
The 90-meter motoryacht DAR, with edgy exterior styling by DeBasto Design has an unprecedented —nearly 24 tons and 400m2 of exterior glass. Her detailed interior by Nuvolari Lenard works well with the exterior by taking advantage of the extraordinary floor-to-ceiling views from nearly everywhere on board. In addition to head-turning aesthetics and advanced technology, DAR is the first yacht to ever achieve the Lloyd’s Integrated Bridge System (IBS) notation.
“We are thankful to all of the team members and myriad individuals responsible for the execution of both of these yachts,” says Marcel Onkenhout, CEO of Oceanco. “Moreover, we are thankful for the trust given to us by the Owners of Black Pearl and DAR to build the extraordinary yachts that they envisioned.”
Derek Munro said “Congratulations to all the amazing Yachts and teams that won awards at the World Superyacht Awards. Fantastic to be part of and see so many superb vessels with innovative design ideas, thank you to Oceanco for inviting us and Boat International with Oyster Yachts for hosting an incredible event in London”
